About Us

We’re the Daugherty family—pronounced Dockerty—but around here most people just call me Doc. My wife and I run Doc’s Open Box together, and the name comes from exactly what we do: finding great deals in open-box and return pallets and bringing them back to Vermilion at prices everyone can enjoy.

This entire store started from a simple promise I wrote in a journal every day for six months:
“I will quit my job so I can take my kids to school every day.”
The lack of family time at my old job was weighing on me, and we knew working for ourselves would bring the flexibility our family needed. Eventually, that promise turned into a plan—then into pallets—then into a store.

Community Comes First

We’re a community shop at heart. A place where you can always find a great deal, discover something unique, or get help selling your own items—whether you’re an artisan who makes things by hand or someone looking for a garage sale without the hassle. You can rent a vendor space or let us auction your items for you. We aim to create a different kind of shopping experience—one built on fairness, family, and community.

Because our space is small, we rotate inventory constantly, and we donate overstock to organizations who can use it. We want everything that comes through our doors to help someone in some way.

A Family Story

Along the way, we’ve made memories we never expected—like the time we drove to Pennsylvania to pick up what we thought was a normal pallet but turned out to be massive…and almost entirely candy. We had to unbox everything right there just to fit it in the minivan. By the time we were done, the kids were strapped in for a six-hour ride completely surrounded by candy. It was chaotic, hilarious, and one of the best family moments we’ve had—something that never would’ve happened if I stayed at my old job.
